Torsion bars are made of spring-steel with one of the ends anchored firmly to the frame of vehicles, and the other end attached to the wheel’s control arms and twist when the control arm travels up and down. While their functions are similar to that of springs, torsion bars do not flatten out like leaf springs or compress like coil springs, and are therefore more compact.
